Hello everyone,
Do you have a wood sealant product you would recommend for an exhibition case? The idea is to have a wall with wood shelves imitating a warehouse from the 1920's. The shelves and objects will have an acrylic top so it will be more or less sealed for several months. Because the exhibition designer doesn't want to use Marvelseal/fabric to cover the shelves (he wants the actual wood showing) we were wondering what products are recommended to seal the wood as best as possible to avoid off-gassing.
Thank you!

Applying a low VOC clear coating is a solution, but these coatings are not full proof. Some acidic compounds will continue to off gas from the wood. You can sometimes get away with this in short term installations, especially if the objects on display aren't particularly vulnerable. The type of wood you use also matters. Some are more acidic than others. Even after applying sealants, it's always a good idea to place some kind of barrier between the objects and the wooden deck (Mylar, etc.).
The products Dacrylate and Camger 1-175 Polyglase environmental Coating (aka Sancure 878) have passed Oddy tests. Additional information can be found on the CCAH website.
