Our colleague Vincent Avalos at the Asian Art Museum in San Fransisco has recently posted a fantastic article that he wrote, which discusses the basic physics of ground motion associated with an earthquake and outlines the some of the methodologies used in seismic mountmaking that can help prevent damage to artifacts on display. Here's a link to the article on Asian Art Museum's conservation webpage, where its also available to download.

The article has a lot useful information that we should all take into consideration when we're designing our mounts, even if you feel that you're not in a seismically active region- I encourage you to check it out.
Nice work Vincent!
