Pay depends on if the hire is a contract employee or a Center of the West Employee. It will be somewhere around $81K.
The Buffalo Bill Center of the West (BBCW) seeks detail-oriented and highly organized individuals to assist with the safe handling, movement, and storage of object collections as part of the BBCW Collections Storage Project. This temporary, full-time position offers a unique opportunity to work hands-on with museum artifacts, ensuring their long-term preservation and accessibility.
This role may be filled as either a direct-hire employee or a contractor, based on the needs of the project and the selected candidate's experience. As a Museum Collections Specialist, responsibilities include identifying, tracking, and relocating museum collection objects to new storage areas. Key duties include assessing object needs, designing and fabricating custom storage mounts, and maintaining meticulous records in the museum’s collections database. Position may also oversee interns, contractors, and volunteers, guiding handling and documentation procedures.
This position requires a strong understanding of museum collections care, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have experience handling fragile and historically significant objects, as well as familiarity with museum databases and best practices in collections management.
