The RoleThe Preparator, Small Object Mounts will work on the design and fabrication of small object mounts for Memorial’s major new gallery development project.The role will be required to liase with curators, project managers and material specialists to assess collection items; design and document mounts; and fabricate mounts for a wide variety of object types and display requirements.The Preparator will also be required to install mounts, objects and displays in the new galleries in collaboration with the Collection Services and Gallery Development teams.Core Responsibilities
Assess a range of collection items to design innovative and aesthetically sensitive mounts that provide the best possible support for collection objects on display;
Interpret exhibition design drawings;
High quality fabrication of mounts using TIG welding and a range of other innovative techniques;
Collaborate and build relationships with a small team of preparators and fabrication specialists;
Establish productive stakeholder relationships across the Memorial;
Provide verbal and written reports on progress of the mount making tasks to managers, committees and Executive as required;
Install mounts and objects on display;
Play a leading role in the WHS aspects of the mount making workshop including safe operation of equipment, safety documentation and contributing to a safety culture within the team;
Assist with the maintenance of the fabrication workshop including arranging servicing of equipment, monitoring supplies, arranging procurement and liaising with suppliers and other external producers;
Actively engage as part of the Collection Services team to foster effective team relationships and contribute to section and Memorial goals.
